This spring, students at Stowe Elementary will plant seeds for a Three Sisters Garden – corn, squash, and beans – in their new greenhouse. When students return next fall, they’ll harvest the plants, which will be used to prepare meals in the school cafeteria.

“Understanding where food comes from is huge,” said Beth Bradford, kindergarten teacher at Stowe Elementary School. “It’s an important life skill for kids to have. So, for them to see it start in the greenhouse and end up in our dining area, it’s so much fun.”

Stowe Land Trust and Stowe Public Schools collaborate to bring outdoor learning opportunities to students. The greenhouse is the most recent addition to the schools’ “learning landscapes.”
