NOTICE: Spring in Vermont means mud! Wiessner Woods, Kirchner Woods, the Mill Trail, Page Forest, Shutesville Ledges, and DuMont Meadow remain open to the public during mud season. Other SLT conserved properties may be subject to mud season closures. Check https://www.trailfinder.info/vermont-mud-season and https://stowetrails.org/conditions to find out if your preferred trail is open or closed before heading into the woods.
If using open trails during mud season, please follow these rules:
- Stay on trail and walk through wet, muddy areas, not around them. This helps protect the soil and plants along the trail’s edge.
- Turn back if the trails are too wet to walk on, or if you're not comfortable staying on the trail in muddy or wet conditions.
- Wear rain boots or waterproof hiking boots. Avoid sneakers and sandals, which are generally inappropriate for wet, muddy trails.
Since 1987, conserving land for public access has been a cornerstone of our work. Ensuring that important recreational land remains open to the public is a key component of building a healthy, sustainable community where everyone has access to the outdoors. Follow the links below to find properties open for different uses.
