Rick and Sally Watts are being recognized as Stowe Land Trust’s Volunteers of the Year for 2018. Their more than 10 years of service as dedicated and active volunteer Land Stewards, as well as Sally’s special assistance on SLT’s Stewardship Committee, have been outstanding contributions to SLT’s mission and work.
“Ever since buying our home in Stowe in 2004, Rick and I have enjoyed many aspects of SLT involvement, including helping to monitor properties such as the Mill Trail, Bouchard Farm, and Landmark Meadow,” said Sally. Land Stewards adopt one of SLT’s conserved properties where they provide a consistent stewardship presence and are the eyes and ears for the land trust, visiting their property at least quarterly. The Watts’ have a special interest in historic buildings and sites, which has been a significant help when planning for the future of the cabin and other structures at the Mill Trail.
“It’s thanks to volunteers like Sally and Rick that Stowe Land Trust is able to make good on our promise to protect these land forever. Their time spent checking trails, pulling invasive plants, and talking with visitors is invaluable to our organization and allows us to better care for all of our conserved properties located throughout the Stowe area,” said Kristen Sharpless, SLT’s Executive Director.
The Land Trust will present the Volunteers of the Year Award to Rick and Sally at their annual meeting held at the Moscow Recreation Field on Saturday, September 22nd, which is free and open to everyone.
