Help us control invasive barberry at Cady Hill!

Location:Cady Hill Forest

Time: 9:30am - 3:30pm. Join for the morning, afternoon, or all day.

Meeting Place: Substation off of Cady Hill Road

Help us take care of Cady Hill Forest by putting a stop to the spread of invasive, Japanese Barberry, without the use of herbicides. Barberry was a common landscaping plant in Vermont, but is now listed as a noxious weed and can no longer be sold in the state. It is spread by birds who eat its bright, red berries, but is a threat to native plant diversity, wildlife, and human health. Join other volunteers in cutting and digging up plants. Led by Mike Bald of Got Weeds? Co-hosted with the Stowe Conservation Commission.

Barberry is a prickly shrub. Wear tough, long pants (e.g. Carhartts or chaps), long sleeves, and sturdy shoes. Dress for the weather. Bring water and a lunch if you plan to stay for the full day, as well as loppers or clippers and work gloves if you have them. Extra tools and gloves will be provided along with hot cider and snacks.
