June has been full of fun and exciting programs and events for the summer naturalist program!
At the beginning of the month, I finished up programs with Stowe Elementary School as the school year ended, and we installed the educational pollinator garden in front of the Stowe Land Trust office space!
Since installing our pollinator garden on June 7th, a flower from the plant Anise hyssop (Agastache foeniculum) came out!
On June 8th, Stowe Land Trust, Helen Day Art Center, and Stowe Parks and Recreation partnered for a Family Fun Day event! We hosted this event at Linthilac Park, and had a great turn out. We had food, face painting, yoga, art projects, and nature activities all in one go! I had a great time spending time outdoors doing a plant scavenger hunt and playing bird bingo.
On June 17th and 19th, we had members of the Outreach group from Stowe Bible Camp join us at the Mill Trail Property for trail maintenance. Both groups did an amazing job! They cleared ditches and culverts by the trail and picked Japanese Knotweed. After their hard work, we took a short hike to Bingham Falls and a tour of the Mill Trail Cabin to wrap up a morning of volunteering.
On June 22nd, I hosted the second Mill Trail Open House of the season. I had 20 people come learn about the history of the Mill Trail, and some participated in the botanical art activity of the day. We made plant prints, pressed flowers, and drew pictures! It was exciting to see everyone’s different artistic interpretations of nature!
On June 24, I hosted campers from Stowe Parks & Recreation at the Mill Trail. The campers participated in fun activities around the property, and did a short hike to Bingham Falls.
