Preserving forested connectors between larger habitat blocks is vital to maintaining healthy wildlife populations.

Shutesville Hill is a small rise on the Waterbury/Stowe town line and isn’t often noticed by the many travelers that frequent Route 100. Yet it is the only forested connection between the Mt. Mansfield and Worcester Mountain forest blocks. As such it plays an outsized role as a regionally significant wildlife road crossing and pinch point in a much larger network of connected forests and waters. Please join us to learn more about what we can do to ensure this vital wildlife connection is maintained in the face of increasing development and a changing climate.

Presenter: Jens Hilke works for the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department as a Conservation Planning Biologist. He helps towns, regional planning commissions and non-governmental organizations with their conservation planning efforts. This includes help with GIS natural resource mapping, advice on prioritizing significant natural features and help with implementing town conservation goals.
