Sarah Bailey will be serving as Stowe Land Trust’s AmeriCorps Stewardship and Outreach Assistant through the summer. Having grown up in the Great Lakes state, Sarah spent her childhood swimming in Michigan’s many rivers and lakes, exploring the forests, and making friends with all the tiny insects and amphibians she stumbled across.
In the late summer of 2014, Sarah moved west to central Colorado in the Arkansas River Valley where she discovered and fell in love with the hard work of building and maintaining trails. She has worked on trail crews every season since while spending her winters working and skiing at a small local mountain. The end of the 2016 trail season and beginning of winter brought Sarah to her new home in Montpelier, Vermont where she studies herbalism at the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism.
Not only does Sarah enjoy studying and observing the natural world, but she also has an eye for making art from it. Sarah has approached art in a therapeutic sense and uses the opportunity to make art collaboratively with others as a means of learning, development, and connection. Having developed a sensitivity to the natural world, she looks forward to spreading that level of awareness and engagement with those in the community through Stowe Land Trust’s Summer Naturalist Program. Sarah will also be coordinating volunteers, assisting with outreach and events, and helping with monitoring and maintaining conserved lands.
