Working Farmland
Cultivate, Nourish, Grow
Stowe’s agricultural roots run deep. A century ago there were over two hundred farms in Stowe. Today, fewer than ten remain.
Local farms offer fresh, healthy, responsibly-sourced products we use every day. Building strong local food systems is a critical step in preparing for the worsening effects of climate change, and farms are an important part of our local economy. Once developed, farmland’s agricultural potential is lost forever.
In addition to providing products such as dairy, meat, produce, and wool, these farms help maintain Stowe’s rural character, provide a connection to our past, and support our local land-based economy.
We work to protect productive farmland that can support a thriving local food economy and is affordable for future farmers.
