Level: Basic Paddling Skills

Time: 9:00 am, Saturday July 23rd

Join SLT Executive Director, Caitrin Maloney, and SLT board member, Mila Lonetto, on a paddle around beautiful <link conserved properties joespond>Joe’s Pond. A great chance to see some of the plants and animals that call this wetland home and learn about the pond’s human history dating back to Abenaki times. We'll get to hear the story of a historic dugout canoe that the Stancliff family retrieved from the pond and brought to the Noyes House Museum in Morristown from current landowner, Ron Stancliff. The canoe is currently on display at the museum, and the Morristown Historical Society is considering carbon-dating the wood in the canoe to learn how old it is. It has been thought that the canoe may have been made by "Indian Joe" for whom Joe's Pond is named and who served as a scout during the American Revolution.

Bring your own canoe or kayak and other necessary equipment. Meet on Stancliffe Road in Morristown.
